So, I bought into CMON projects for a time. And I still have unpainted Zombies to this day. Massive Darkness has not arrived (nor even shipped) though our Northern N-eh!-bors have started receiving them. And to be honest, I'm not as excited as I once was about this project. I've also been a very active participant on Reaper Miniature forums for about a year now. The Bones IV Kickstarter is still going on, and there will be some cool things coming from it. But something happened recently that changed everything for me...
A new game store opened up in town. Actually, it is a store from a town about 20 miles away that relocated to our town. There were also other customers there when I stopped by. And I saw this sign space:
The top one should have excited me. I have a BattleFoam 432 packed with X-Wing miniatures. I spent a year devoted to trying to get others to play. I have custom rulers, a Rogue Squadron jersey, and a tournament tray. Not going to lie, still may play sometime... but that wasn't what excited me.
The bottom entry listed Warhammer 101 with Painting and Assembly. Granted, it's only once a month, but it's a start and I met someone on my first visit that was also interested. There is a display rack for Citadel paint (currently empty) and two demo units of tabletop standard Space Marines.
Mildly interested, I began to look up more information. It's what I do, I'm an information junkie. As I have been a subscriber to Games Workshop for a long time, I had seen something about new stuff for 40K, but didn't really read it. I am pretty sure I went to The Website and looked at some things (vaguely noticing that pricing on some things was not as extravagant as I had remembered it being). I did see the new Rulebook which the hardback was much cheaper than I previously remembered.
Looked for podcasts and saw that the Independent Characters podcast was highly rated. Looked at the stream and saw some of the recent ones had all switched to talking about 8th Edition (or New) Warhammer 40,000. So I began listening... and got excited...
Before the weekend was over, I had gotten the Getting Started with...
I also added the basic Space Marines paints for $15 and another squad of 3 Intercessors. Figured that would give me something to work with and begin on an army of some kind in the future while attending the LGS on Saturday.
The book and figures arrived last night and actually I was pretty impressed with the package. The figures are multi-part snap together models, and I'm not sure where I want to go with my army yet, so they will get basic blue to get better at painting these kind of models.
